Presquile Provincial Park - May 14 - June 5th, site # 78 booked
Har we goes agin - we allers start our kemping season at Presquile off on Bluffs site #78 - short walk showers & terlets and beside the water fer launching the blowed-up-reel-good-boat and shotgun-pruf canoe. Lotser paved roads and trails for yer biking, 'n walking the pooches. Great in May before schools get out - not crowded, bugs have not yet massed and the steady offshore breezes keep them down even if they do arrive. Most of our camping friends also reserve around this time - time for 'campfire hopping' and the beer & vino will surely flow on a regular basis! And of course, periodic tripping up to the :Fish capital of Ontario" at Hastings, as well as buffets at Chubby's - our favourite 'nosh spots! Presquile has a huge sandy 2km long well-kept beach, good for walks and swimming, it's worth the 30 minute drive to Sandbanks to go to Sandbanks beach - best beach in the area and also part of it is designated a "dog beach" so the pooches can come too. At Presquile there are still a few deer left & raccoons are still around with the occasional otter and of course, being a bird sanctuary, Bluff and Gull Islands are a renown bird watchers' paradise - great to sit out and watch the 'waves' of cormorants, terns, heron and those huge mute swans wend their way to and from the islands - reportedly over 200,000 birds call them 'home'! The fantastic large water-side "Bluff" campsites are our favourites & the park is close to stores, restaurants and over 37 vineyards for wine lovers. Doesn't get much better than this!

Presquile Provincial Park - June 6th - June 27th, site # 75A booked
We certainly are creatures of habit!! Same old... same old... Yadda-yadda etc. Our stay at Presqu'ile continues - back to our "summer" site - the usual #75. Most of "the crowd" have made their reservations - they will all be there. Ken & Flo on #1, Hart & Donna, on 76, Bill & Diane on 78, Gord & Judy on 81, Paul & Geri on 82, Gale & George on 83, Art & Sal on 97, Bob & Heather on 99, John & Gail on 80, Bob & Liz - wherever they can hang their hats... Already, we are dreaming of the snow on top of the trailer melting, cleaning out the winter critters, getting stocked up and hitting the road down to "the lake" and the usual routines of sun, sand, campfires and outings to Hastings & Chubbys.. life ain't too bad!! Looking forward to seeing all our friends there. This summer, weather cooperating, gonna spend more time tripping over to Sandbanks and that fantastic "Sandbanks" beach (not "Outlet" bikini beach - although that certainly deserves an eyeball-straining visit..). Jackie 'broke the ice' learning to snorkel last spring while down south - gonna keep that up and possibly climb the next step into scuba - the old man has to buy new 'flippers' and get re-certified in any event. Going to be a good summer.

Elora Gorge Conservation Park - July 9th - July 16th, site # 376 booked
Doing something new this summer - brand new camping experience to try out. The Elora Gorge is one of the most beautiful and spectacular natural areas in the Grand River valley, northwest of Guelph. The gorge has 22-metre high cliffs. Riverside trails and scenic overlooks provide hikers with stunning views of the water far below where kayakers and tubers make their way through the rapids (you can enjoy a 2 Km white water tubing adventure on the river). The Gorge area is also rated as one of the best brown trout fishing areas in North America. Since 1989 more than 400,000 brown trout have been stocked in the river (& "yours truly" intends to catch his fair share of them!). There are also Smallmouth Bass and Pike for the taking. There is also a 40Km hiking and cycling trail so the dogs will be well walked (as will their masters). The Elora/Fergus area is well known for it's shops, boutiques and Mennonite crafts - which should keep the ladies in the group quite happy. A group of us have decided to book in at the same time so evening campfires and daily "washer toss" & "Bocca" sessions will be the order of the day! We are looking forward to a new park to explore and the camera will be working overtime from all accounts. (see Campsite MAP)

Elvis Festival (Collingwood) 2008 - July 24th - July 27th
This was our 2nd year attending this fun affair. Elvis fan or not, young or old, there was much to do and see and it was one heck of a party! This event is only 1 of 3 events worldwide sanctioned by the Presley family (Australia, Memphis, Collingwood) and attendance swelled the normal 19,000 Collingwood population to over 85,000. So if you like Elvis memorabelia or music, enjoy a party and love having fun, then this event should definitely be placed on your "to do" list for 2009 - but better book early as that is what it takes to secure accommodation - and they are booking as soon as the current event ended!

Presquile Provincial Park - Aug 18th - Sept 5th, site # 75 booked
Yawnnnn.... Same old.. Same old.. Our stay at Presqu'ile continues - back to our "fall" site - the usual #75. We had planned an earlier arrival (August 13th) but the park got soaked a few days before and they got clobbered by a "mini-tornado" - mud everywhere and many awnings were rip[ped off - didn't want the trailer or truck to get bogged down, so did the (hopefully) wise thing - postponed for a few days. We are still earlier than usual this year - want to get in a bit more swimming over at Sandbanks - gotta tune up Jackie's underwater swimming. She "got into" snorkelling last year on the boat trip - loved it - and next spring gonna repeat that adventure including her first stab at scuba which means yours truly has to get re-certified and we have to buy a little equipment - Arggg!! Booked 68 days so far this year - could hit 98 or a 100 by the time we are finished - a new record!! We're looking forward to seeing all our friends this fall and those campfires & group 'pot-luck' dinners as well as tripping to Hastings, Chubby's and other 'noshing group outings. 'Luv Kemping'!!!

Presquile Provincial Park - Sept 5th - Sept 28th booked
Yawnnnn.... it continues.. - back to our "fall" habitat again - the usual. While here, might take in the Toronto Zoo - haven't done that in a few years - not since getting the Zoom camera - should pick up a few nice shots. Also considering taking one of the 1,000 Island boat cruises. Also will probably take a jaunt over the border to the old USA - depending on where the dollar stands - picked up some real bargains last time in the spring - and Jackie will have already started gitting her "wardrobe" ready for the spring sortie down south. We've booked 94 days camping so far this year - could hit 100 by the time we are finished if we get an "Indian Summer"!! Once again we're looking forward to seeing all our friends this fall and those campfires & group 'pot-luck' dinners as well as tripping to Hastings, Chubby's, the Franktown and Trenton Chinese Food emporiums and other 'noshing group outings. 'Luv Kemping'!!!

Followup... Hastings P.O.O.F. Xmas Luncheon - November 12th 2008
The first thing you should know is that campers can be 'different' and P.O.O.F.'ers border on crazy, albeit fun-loving crazy! So rather than gather for a traditional Turkey get together - why not make it fish? P.O.O.F.'ers love fish and one of the best places we have found is in Hastings where they serve Alaska Halibut cooked as it should be... This was the inaugral Christmas Luncheon. Many of us have been to Hastings too many times to count, but this time it was an "Official P.O.O.F." event, which admittedly does not mean much - but what the heck, any excuse to get together and 'nosh' on fish is good - timely too, as Judy had a birthday approaching (and I would not dare publish any numbers - Judy probably has a mean left hook!!) It was great to see all the familiar camping faces again. Check out the photos...
