NEW! Ken's Flicks 2006 (.wmv video 7Mb) - featuring the famous "Fireman Bob's Retirement Party"...
Fitzroy Park - May 12 - 18th, site # 33 booked
Back to our "spring opening" park. Same site as we've had for the last couple of years - short walk to the fishing pools, near showers & terlets and a short drive to the canoe launching wharf - ideal site for us & lots of room for the new larger trailer. Fitzroy is the park where we will get all the "bugs" out of our new campers and equipment. Once again gotta get the screen room set up - room from the Kodiak fits like a glove. Fitzroy is just over ˝ hour from home so if anything needs fixing, easy enough to do! We like Fitzroy - quiet, great spring fishing (pickerel, panfish, muskey and when the season opens - large and smallmouth bass galore), good boating, lots of walking/hiking trails, this year lots of canoeing and fishing out near the base of the dam (monster pickerel and the occasional Musky) out there and really nice during the "greening" season - not too many bears around. Again, will probably have a traditional "beer & BBQ" on Saturday with guests invited.
Presquile Park - May 31 - June 21st, site # 78 booked
(Yawn) once again, back to our favourite park. Larger trailer this time so will have to reconsider our camping placement but t'will be done! Miles of paved roads and trails for biking, in-line skating, hiking or just walking the dog. With the new canoe and our site right adjacent to the water - gonna be lots of paddling time - gonna take the 4 man blow-up boat and the canoe. Great in June before schools get out - not crowded, bugs have not yet massed and the steady offshore breezes keep them down even if they do arrive. Most of our camping friends - 4 to 6 of them at least - have also reserved around this time - time for 'campfire hopping' and the beer & vino will surely flow on a regular basis! Presquile has a huge sandy 2km long well-kept beach, there are many deer & raccoons with the occasional otter and of course, being a bird sanctuary, Bluff and Gull Islands are a renown bird watchers' paradise - great to sit out and watch the 'waves' of cormorants, terns, heron and swans wend their way to and from the islands - reportedly over 200,000 birds call them 'home'! Fantastic large water-side "Bluff" campsites & the park is close to stores, restaurants and over 37 vineyards for wine lovers.
Presquile Park - July 13 - July 27th, site # 75 booked Back to our favourite haunts for a couple of weeks in July. Park is a little busier than we like it at this time as all the kiddies are out of school but what the park offers more than makes up for it! Good thing about 'busy time' is that the park store, a short hike or bike ride away, is always open and their ice cream - out nightly ritual - is second to none - and heaping scoops too! Bird arrivals and departures are in full swing at this time and we love watching the swans wing by as they head to the to the islands - highest daily count last year was 72. Not too many storms and the lake is usually still so paddling will be great this time with both the 'Yacht" and the new Canoe to play with - as well as all the usual activities we love to partake in at the park - 'bring it on'! <;^)-
Mew Lake - Algonquin - August 13 - 23d, site # 51 CANCELLED
Back to our 2nd favourite haunt - Algonquin Park! Same site as last year - around the same time - mid August after all the bugs and flies have gone away! Our campsite is huge and is located right on the lake - so we can moor the boat and use the canoe right from the campsite. No motor boats allowed - strictly kayaks, blow-ups and canoes - and there is some great trout fishing here! First time for the canoe so the old arms are going to get a good workout! Jackie wants to try her hand at fishing as well! Could be the first camping outing for the new puppy "Poncho de Leone" (presuming his arrival is not delayed) so he and his brother, the Brodster, should have a great time with all the 'walkies', not to mention the great shape yours truly's legs will be in! Many surrounding lakes including gateways to the Algonquin 'interior' where we can access undisturbed lakes and rivers - and a great opportunity to get some good moose, deer and bear shots with the camera. The campground is located - walking distance - near the Park store close to Two Rivers Park off Hwy 60 - and adjoining a massive field of blueberries - and berry-hungry bears, but they do not bother anyone, just like posing for photo-ops and berries taste better than humans I suspect! The field used to be a war-time airfield, now deserted, also an old 20km railway rail bed acts as a great cycling path - well used by yours truly and the new trailbike.
Presqu'ile Park - August 28th - Sept 22nd, site # 75 Booked
Again... true to habit - our third visit here this summer! Same old... same old...! Labour day weekend at the park then school's back in, most of the "weekend campers" are back at work, things calm down a lot - time to relax and enjoy the tranquillity of this great park. More deer, more raccoons and the waves of migrating birds whistling past your campsite in huge "vee" formations - great time for binoculars and a good camera with a zoom lens! Grape ripening season too so another time to visit many of the 33 37 wineries in the area - also peak apple season and this area is famous for it's apples as well as the numerous cafés and small quaint restaurants. This will be the "second-to-last" camping trip for the season - as we plan one last excursion in early October - either at Algonquin's Mew Lake or possibly White Lake...
Presqu'ile Park - October 1st - 6th, site # 75 Booked Once again... fourth visit here this summer - that really does say it all! Just returned from the September trip - did not want to leave SO... booked in for a final summer/fall trip! September was great - of 27 days, couple of nights of raim which means we had many campfire evenings and warm days, only damper was that we had lots of high winds - mostly thanks to hurricane Ernesto - could not ask for more! Last couple of falls, in October, the weather was great and the turning leaves beautiful - we're hoping for the same again this year!
